Hi all ...relative linux newbie here and just thought I'd try to install this but I am getting an error, my 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet controller isn't being recognized don't know what to do next.

No worries, you aren't the only newbie... Have you had a look at the file DRIVER-INSTALL.txt in / of the filesystem? Boot in live-cd and have a look. There are solaris drivers for your card downloadable from the marvell site. Good luck, and keep plugging.
